Product Lifecycle Management tools

Tools to support Product Lifecycle Management

To derive at the different functional and non-functional requirements with the focus on Stakeholder Value Creation Enterprise Architects developed two different approaches. The following tools support the Stakeholder Value Creation Evaluation

  • ASA/Strategy analysis
Strategic choice Analysis based on
tool for Value Creation (Pain/Gain)
Highest dimension of Value Creation
Part of Medium dimensions of Value Creation
  • ASM/Strategic choice Mapping
Strategic choice mapping on the Knowledge Function Mode
  • PPM/Connecting to Value Creation
Connecting the Transition Portfolio components already defined in PPM to the initial Strategic Value Creation

Tools to support Capability Management

To design and build up the Capabilities the Architecture tool is used:

  • AAM/Archimate Management
Designing Capabilities in their Product Delivery context, including the Actors, etc. up to Business Functions
  • APP/Application Portfolio Planned
Defining the initial plans, PIs, budgets, etc for the Business Cases and Value Streams

Tools to support Product Knowledge Management

During the design phase it is possible to add the necessary Functional Augmented Knowledge of the Business Process and the Process Activities/Business Functions/Apps in the three ways as described above. Because the proposition maintenance Apps are automatically generated in AMM (see Tools to support Proposition Modeling) this functionality can be used to maintain this knowledge via these Apps.

Tools to support Product Lifecycle Management

The idea-to-planning solution used to support the decision making and planning can be used to support and register the product, service, and technological innovation:

  • AFP/Funnel Planning
Registering potential innovations, delivering opportunities for the already developed products, services and innovations in their context of the architecture and design continua, and support the decision making until initiatives become available for Information Planning; here the focus is specifically on external innovation and developments.

To design and build up the Capabilities the Architecture tool is used:

  • AAM/Archimate Management
Define details of changes in time to find out how changes of Business Functions will influence each other
  • APP/Application Portfolio Planner
Defining the more detailed activities and how they will influence more detailed plans, PS, budgets, etc. for all the forthcoming Business Cases and Value Streams
